Through the eyes we can see a person’s soul, mood and real age. Time as well as genetic factors are responsible for the gradual deterioration of eyelashes and thus the whole look of the eyes area. It can appear along with ophthalmic wrinkles, excessive and loosening of the skin, and the appearance of endochondral fat, creating the image of a bag above and below the eyes. The degree and type of lesions vary from person to person, so the need for correction varies.
On the upper eyelids the excess skin can sometimes overlap the entire eyelid like a sheet with or without the appearance of fat in the inner corner of the eye, causing an unpleasant aesthetic effect and difficulty in vision. In the lower eyelids, problems are found in the bags under the eyes, with intense loosening of the skin and in some cases with loss of support particularly near the outer corner of the eye after some age.
Blepharoplasty is an operation that aims to correct any problems that occur around the eyelids by correcting the excess visceral fat end by removing or redistributing it, limiting loose and surplus skin and restoring it for a younger look.
The procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia and small incisions in the crease of the upper eyelid and immediately below the eyelashes on the bottom. The resulting fat is removed or redistributed and the excess skin is removed. The whole procedure takes 1-2 hours and is usually done with local anesthesia, is not painful in recovery and does not require an overnight stay in the clinic. However, lower eyelid blepharoplasty in particular requires a few days of abstinence from social activities while elimination of very fine wrinkles can be accomplished by complementary application of fractional carbon dioxide. After some time the incisions from the surgery are not visible.
